This state-of-the-art 10-story, high containment research laboratory includes an ABSL-2 and ABSL-3 vivarium, commissioned by Cornerstone. The vivarium is now undergoing a renovation to address new biocontainment research needs and Cornerstone is the commissioning agent for the new work, contracted directly to the NIH.

Cornerstone's role was to lead the commissioning process, with support from STV's engineers. This mixed use laboratory / administrative / service facility includes large high containment areas for BSL3 and ABSL3 research, wet labs, cage wash, decontamination chamber and a multi-disciplinary BSL3 diagnostic lab. The administration building includes a kitchen and dining facilities, conference and training, fitness and other support functions. The adjacent service building provides space for health and safety, animal care staff, shipping and receiving, and numerous other support services.

Cornerstone's role was to lead the commissioning process, with support from STV's engineers. This Maximum Containment Large Animal Research Facility is the largest BSL-3Ag facility in the world. The collaborative team approach between Owner, CM, A/E and Commissioning Authority made this one of the most successful and rewarding projects in our company's history. Unique system tests: pressure decay testing of 47 BSL3Ag zones, many special biocontainment systems, carcass disposal system and complex building controls. The goal of the project was to simplify operation to the greatest extent possible. Building 9 contains 22 Biosafety Level-3Ag animal rooms used for the study of animal diseases such as brucellosis and tuberculosis, and animal diseases that are foreign to the United States such as heartwater and African horse sickness.
